MOVIE REVIEW
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
Directed by David Yates
Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Tom Felton
Was that a Harry Potter-movie? Little dorky guy with the glasses and owls and magic whatsits? Wow. At age 16, Harry has done a lot of growing up and it’s really starting to show properly in all aspects of the film-making. The further ahead one gets in the series, the less effort is put into the more childish sparkly magic bling, and the more on the actual plot.
The only problem is, in the later and longer books there is now so much plot to fit in that it’s starting to get impossible to make any sense out of it in two and a half hours. How anyone who hasn’t read the books can watch this film and keep up with the plotline is beyond me. I found it hard myself, even knowing what’s gonna happen beforehand.
Overall it was great, I just wish I had a bit more of everything. The dramatic ending scenes get less dramatic if they feel rushed, and that rush is still nothing compared to what’s been done to all the little things we all enjoyed in the book.
Basically I’m saying what everyone have always been saying, I guess. There is no replacing Rowling’s masterpieces. The movies are no more than fun little sidetracks to me anymore, really. If you’re a fan, you’re gonna watch it whether I tell you to or not. If you haven’t read the books, I can’t really see the point of paying for a cinema ticket to see this.
