MOVIE REVIEWHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)Directed by David YatesStarring Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Tom FeltonWas that a Harry Potter-movie? Little dorky guy with the glasses and owls and magic whatsits? Wow. At age 16, Harry has done a lot of growing up and it’s really starting to show properly in all aspects of the film-making. The further ahead one gets in the series, the less effort is put into the more childish sparkly magic bling, and the more on the actual plot. The only problem is, in the later and longer books there is now so much plot to fit in that it’s starting to get impossible to make any sense out of it in two and a half hours. How anyone who hasn’t read the books can watch this film and keep up with the plotline is beyond me. I found it hard myself, even knowing what’s gonna happen beforehand.Overall it was great, I just wish I had a bit more of everything. The dramatic ending scenes get less dramatic if they feel rushed, and that rush is still nothing compared to what’s been done to all the little things we all enjoyed in the book.Basically I’m saying what everyone have always been saying, I guess. There is no replacing Rowling’s masterpieces. The movies are no more than fun little sidetracks to me anymore, really. If you’re a fan, you’re gonna watch it whether I tell you to or not. If you haven’t read the books, I can’t really see the point of paying for a cinema ticket to see this.

MOVIE REVIEWAmerican Beauty (1999)Directed by Sam MendesStarring Kevin SpaceyI never knew this was the origin of the weird creepy video camera guy with the floating plastic bag, as parodized in Not Another Teen Movie. Awesome character. But most of all, I didn’t expect to enjoy this movie so much. Both me and my boyfriend thought it was great, which is always a plus in my book.I love a movie that grabs your attention straight from the start, and this one accomplishes that through the narrator, the main character, telling you that from the start of the movie he has one year to live. This both made me curious and at the same time feel as if I knew what to expect. Best part is, I didn’t. Not only once but several times did I think I had the ending figured out only to be proved wrong by a clever plot twist. American Beauty is genuinely beautiful and clever, just the way I like it. I know it’s ten years old and most people might even have seen it already, I dunno, but if you haven’t you definitely should. Teenagers and adults, men and women alike, watch it.

MOVIE REVIEWThe Wrestler (2008)Directed by Darren AronofskyStarring Mickey RourkeTo be fair we did have a lot of expectations about this movie, but the beginning bit didn’t prove us wrong either. It seemed like it was gonna be good, lots of wrestling insights and good, emotional footage. Then the man had his heart attack and the movie just went downhill. The whole middle section where Randy is trying to settle down outside of wrestling is kind of pointless and boring, and in the end leads nowhere. It could have been saved by a really clever ending, but it honestly wasn’t that good once you got there. The big finale would have been quite grand if it had made any sense, instead it just felt like they’d run out of plotline and thought “screw this, let’s just make a big dramatic wrestling thing and roll the closing credits. done!” In my opinion, not really worth all the Oscar nominations and whatnot. The acting was good but the plot really bad and the filming angles felt really out of place a lot of the time. It could have been really awesome if it’d just been a bit better planned out, someone just messed up big time.
